All Paws Aboard: Pet-Friendly Vacations

It’s summertime! For many, that means it is time to pack up and head out on a fun-filled, family vacation. As pet owners, we know that our four-legged friends are an integral part of that family, but sometimes it can be hard to find vacation spots that welcome pets. There is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to travel with your pet, which is why we compiled a short list of pet-friendly vacations that are sure to impress your entire family, tails and all.

Hit the road
Road trips are a great way to spend time with your entire family. No matter where you go, there is sure to be plenty of quality time. The best part is that any road trip can be planned around your pet. Take your pup along for a hiking excursion through the West, stopping at all the best trails, or head to the beach and bring your cat along for the ride. With so much time in the car, remember that pets can overheat very quickly if left alone. Make sure to bring your pet with you when you leave the car, even if the windows are cracked. It doesn’t take much time for your pet to be at serious risk of heat stroke.

Relieve stress at a pet-friendly resort
What is better than a spa day at a resort? One that allows your pet to be pampered, as well. Numerous resorts throughout the U.S. offer pet programs, such as doggy daycares and spas. Let your cat curl up in your room, while you lay by the pool and relax, or send your dog to the spa, while you get a massage.

Explore a pet-focused city
Many cities throughout the United States are known for their pet-friendly activities, shops and restaurants. San Diego, California; Bar Harbor, Maine; Austin, Texas; and Asheville, North Carolina are just a few of the dozens of cities that welcome pets with open arms. Whether you are exploring trails, grabbing a drink at a bar full of pets or hitting every dog park in the area, you are sure to find plenty to do in any of these cities.

Hit the seas
While not all ships welcome pets, there are a variety of cruise lines that do. A quick search for pet-friendly cruises will turn up dozens of options, allowing you to hit the seas with your four-legged pal. Lounge on the deck with your pup or send your cat to daycare while you go on an exciting excursion. Either way, you and your pet are sure to have a great time in the open waters.

Whether you are hiking a mountain or laying by the ocean, leaving your pet at home may cause unnecessary stress, which can really cut into your relaxation time. Taking them along is a great way to ensure their happiness and your bliss. Each of these options offer ways to have fun without leaving your canine or feline friends behind.
